Since 9-1-1 was established in the United States, everyone has been or is being assigned a physical address, in the rural counties as well as within city limits, for location purposes. The process to assign addresses to all Fayette County properties began in the early 1990’s. The Fayette County 9-1-1 Addressing Office is the sole addressing agent for the unincorporated rural areas and select incorporated areas of Fayette County. This means all addresses in Fayette County must be assigned or approved by this office. 9-1-1 addresses are attached to landline telephone records so that when 9-1-1 is dialed, a location will be displayed for emergency services. Therefore, if the caller is unable to speak or give the calltaker driving instructions, they can still be located. Your 9-1-1 address is included on a Fayette County map which is available to the 9-1-1 calltaker as well as to all Fayette County emergency responders. To keep people from having to remember two addresses, a mailing address (route & box) and a 9-1-1 physical address, the Postal Service has converted to 9-1-1 physical addressing for mail delivery as well.
To obtain a 9-1-1 physical address for your property in Fayette County, contact Dawn Moore at the Fayette County Courthouse, County Judge's Office, 151 North Washington St. Room 302, La Grange, (979) 968-6469, or email dawn.moore@co.fayette.tx.us You may also complete the Address Request Application with Adobe Acrobat Reader or print and manually complete the form and then send it by email or mail to the addressing office for processing. (Windows 2000/XP/Vista and Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.0 are required). If you choose to apply for your address in person, bringing a completed application with you will be helpful. Information necessary to establish an address includes your name, the name of the road by which your property is primarily accessible and the distance from the nearest road intersection to the driveway of your property. (The distance can be measured by the odometer of your vehicle.) Other information that is helpful is a neighbor’s name and/or address.
Your 9-1-1 address numbers should be posted and visible from the road so that emergency service agencies can easily find you in case of an emergency. You may post a number sign of your own choosing or you may purchase a Fayette County address number sign. Fayette County Address signs are available at the following locations:
